    Brian Johnson · 2020

Event context · see format details

Johnson valued the veterans' cause and praised his teammates and the staff. He found the trail beautiful but sometimes monotonous. Reaching Deadwood felt satisfying after four demanding days, though the final mile seemed long.

Other-format event context from a 2020 four-day, 110-mile endurance march. Johnson also entered the final 26.2-mile marathon, but the appraisal is shaped by the preceding stages. Published by his Marathon Maniacs club. Support for the staged event is not evidence of standalone marathon services today.

The runner found the return hill grueling and the course very dark after sunset, but enjoyed meeting the small field and thanking Calico's organizer afterward. Heat gave way to cooler night conditions during the outing.

A 2026 participant's account from Calico Racing's final period before an operator transition. The writer was a returning Calico customer and wanted to thank the organizer, which shapes the appreciative tone. The account does not explicitly state its distance, so it is event context rather than a confirmed full-marathon review. Future Aravaipa editions may differ.

    Penny Wilbanks · 2023

Event context · see format details

Penny described the 2023 Paris Pair as very hot, with a flat course and many trees. Her short race-log note also says she developed blisters.

A brief self-reported September 2023 Paris Pair race-log comment. The log labels the entry Marathon, but the completed distance has not been independently verified, so this is historical event context rather than matched 50K or 100K feedback. Her heat and blister experience is personal to that edition.

Neal Barnaba, race director interviewed by The Running Mullet · 2024

Event context · see format details

The director enjoyed the friendly competition and families gathering around the loop’s base area. He credits volunteers who spent the day cooking, supporting the aid station and handling timing. He also describes deceptively demanding short climbs and off-camber sections.

Perspective: event staff; this affiliated account is not an independent participant review. A firsthand affiliated staff retrospective on the 2024 event, not a participant review. The director’s assessment describes his own organization and onsite observations. He says that year’s loop changed because of high lake water; this does not establish the current route, support or conditions. Unverified secondhand athlete quotations and results are excluded from this account. Read from the original automatic speech captions, with uncertain figures and names omitted. No numerical rating is assigned.

    Miranda Bachman · 2026

    Marathon

Miranda enjoyed seeing other runners throughout the double out-and-back course and chatting with a companion for the last 12 miles. She noticed gentle downhill outbound and uphill returning, liked the cool cloudy weather and felt strong at the finish.

Miranda Bachman’s brief personal 2026 full-marathon log. Self-reported and not independently verified. She had done little recent training and set no time target. Her personal result does not establish comparative course speed.

Karen Murray Anderson (anthology credits Karen and Glen Anderson) · 2026

    Marathon

Anderson enjoyed the preserved rail-trail setting and described the marathon as flat and uncomplicated. She found the aid-station spacing manageable even in humid conditions and appreciated running with a companion.

A 2026 full-marathon account published in a club anthology and credited to Karen and Glen Anderson. The original social version was not separately read, and the club’s selection or editing is unknown. The praise describes this outing on the Elk River Trail, not an independently checked quality sample or a promise about a future edition.
