Allison initially loved the river scenery and running with a group, though rocky footing and unreliable GPS made pacing harder. In her later update, she said the rejection of her qualifying time over course length spoiled much of that satisfaction.

The writer liked the small-town festival atmosphere, frequent aid, lantern-lit tunnel and apple-dumpling finish treat. Gentle rail-trail grades became noticeable racing back uphill.
