David O called the Pig a favorite, particularly its pump-and-run feature, and valued the combination of strength and endurance as a reason to cross-train.

Community opinion; participation and firsthand experience are not established. A historical community opinion about Flying Pig’s pump-and-run feature, posted in November 2019. Participation, firsthand experience, race edition and running distance are unverified. This is not a full-marathon finisher review or evidence about the current course or race services. Peyton Massey

Event context · see format details

Massey recalls mud, hills and a couple of wrong turns in his first official trail race. After starting too quickly, he says he adjusted and finished feeling stronger and wiser. Supporting A Soldier’s Child made the effort particularly meaningful to him.

A personal historical Battle Axe half-marathon account, retained as shorter-distance event context. His experience does not assess the 26.2-mile Crucible or its obstacle-course section. The wrong turns are his own recollection, not proof of a general marking problem. He explicitly values the charity cause and tags a running community; a formal affiliation or compensation is not established. Later routes, weather and conditions may differ. Only the complete written post was read; its photos and film were not used. The raced year is unverified; the native May 2 post label and a dated May 2, 2026 comment are retained as chronology, without establishing the original publication year.

    Marathon

JK enjoyed the gentle trail course and regular aid stations, but thought runners seeking crowds might find it quiet. The early start and downtown finish worked well. Gnats along the exposed waterside sections were an annoyance.

The walker liked the river views and wildlife and reported construction and road detours on the northern stretch.
