What racers and reviewers say

  • Casco Oscuro blog (Crónica Ironcat 2013)Raced 2013 · blog · Positive

First-time iron-distance finisher (12:21) reports a calm sea that felt icy before the wetsuit warmed him, six bike laps with a fast group early then wind building and hurting slower riders, and a marathon started with cramps. He praises volunteers, aid stations and the wristband lap system, but found the pre-race briefing hard to follow. Pre-dawn storm left a cool 17-18 C (63-64 F) morning.

  • Second Ironcat (11:35). Cold water and a mass-start swim, six flat bike laps between L'Ampolla and Camarles through rice fields with headwinds milder than the year before, then a hot (above 30 C / 86 F) afternoon run that went badly after pacing and nutrition errors. Praises Camarles feed station and finish-line medical help; complaints limited to an XXL fleece and short shirt sizes. Slept poorly in town due to bird-scaring gas cannons.
