What racers and reviewers say
- Sean ChinRaced 2025 · blog · Mixed
Inaugural-race report: warm river with an upstream current and a sandbank that surprised athletes (swim format changed two months out), 180 km (112 mi) of three loops through downtown and forest with uneven pavement and gusts. Heat, haze and an air-quality alert made the run hard. He stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier and praised volunteers and police; finished 13:20.
“questioned my life decisions many many times”

Post-race thread after the inaugural race: scenery, crowds and organization praised; one US visitor called the production a step above other fulls. Warm swim with a wild sandbar, wildfire smoke concerns, and consistent complaints about poor pavement in Gatineau and the KZM section.

More 2025 reports: roads were the main complaint, with athletes choosing 28-30 mm tires at ~4.8 bar (70 psi). Drafting was disputed, with few marshals seen; a friend lost his timing chip during wetsuit stripping and Sportstats helped recover the time. Spectators were engaged, with donkeys at the run turnaround; one poster called it an incredibly well run event.

- Slowtwitch forum: Ironman Ottawa 2026 (post 76)Raced 2026 · forum · Positive
Ottawa local who improved from 16:16 to 14:17: swim 25 minutes faster but wetsuit-optional call criticised (water ~23 °C (73 °F) / 73 °F), a rainy bike with debris, GI trouble on the run, praise for volunteers and the new Major's Hill finish chute. Plans to return in 2027 and hopes IRONMAN keeps Ottawa afterwards.
