Why people love it

  • Ukraine's only Norseman-style extreme full, finishing on its highest peak, Hoverla, at 2,061 m (6,762 ft)
  • Ice-cold Carpathian reservoir swim of 11-15 °C (52-59 °F)
  • Tiny field (23 starters in 2023) with a strong community and cause-driven spirit
  • Athletes who cannot summit can still finish the iron distance with a T-shirt finish

Watch out for

  • We could not confirm the 2025 or 2026 editions took place
  • No civilian air access to Ukraine; overland travel and security risk
  • Support car mandatory; total ascent 3,970 m (13,025 ft)
  • Mountain weather can alter the finish; run timing marks at km 29.5 and 41.6 (mi 18.3 and 25.9)
  • Almost no English athlete reports

What racers and reviewers say

  • Feature on organizer Oleksandr Nedoruba, who conceived the race after Norseman 2019. It reports the first edition on 14 Oct 2023 with 23 triathletes from Ukraine, Poland and Britain, a ~12 °C (54 °F) reservoir swim, ~2,200 m (7,200 ft) of climbing on the bike and a run to Hoverla's summit. Organizers framed it as supporting Ukrainian athletes and the local economy. Promotional in tone, not a participant account.

  • Zakarpattia Regional Tourism DepartmentRaced 2024 · article · Positive

Official regional announcement for the 12 Oct 2024 edition: athletes from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa and other cities had registered. Describes the icy reservoir swim, steep Yablunytsia Pass bike and the run finishing on Hoverla. Confirms the race was being staged in 2024 despite the war. Announcement only, no results.

  • Rakhiv Plai, a spa hotel on the bike route, is rated 9.6/10 on Orbitz; the page carries a travel-caution alert. Shows quality lodging exists near the bike course but is not Kolochava-specific.
