The writer valued the Antietam Battlefield scenery, a memorable stadium finish and the post-race gathering. Steep hills, uneven narrow trail, grass and a spiral staircase made the course demanding. Humidity and sparse water stops added difficulty; friends’ encouragement helped them finish in 4:34.
A personal full-marathon report from October 2018. The writer was cautious on trails after a previous foot injury and found the humid conditions difficult. This older course and aid pattern may differ from current editions.

The runner enjoyed the unusual towpath and battlefield setting and praised organization, the shirt and simple wooden medal. They found the route hilly and walked some climbs.
