Raced 2026 · Steel City Striders (2026 report)

    Tone: Mixed

“At times it really did feel like you were on a treadmill”

Cool, calm start at 8:00 then 12 miles (19 km) of wind from mile 10 (16 km), with crosswind, headwind and dust in the lanes. Regular water stations, but the mile 22 (35 km) one had run out. Village support welcome. 1,020 finishers; the runner still beat a 4:23 London target.

Raced 2025 · Steel City Striders (Boland and Jenkins)

    Tone: Mixed

“it's not exactly the most scenic of route”

Flat for real, but not scenic unless you like fields. Wind is the wildcard. Bag drop, toilets and start were close, but a 15 minute delay came from toilet and bag queues, and there were hardly any pacers. One runner got a PB at 3:12.

    Tone: Positive

    “well organised and friendly event”

Company team write-up of the 2025 event, which drew over 2,000 runners across all distances. Describes the flattest marathon in the UK, narrow country lanes through villages, volunteer support along the route and the finish at Boston College. Entirely positive and written by participants.

Raced 2021 · Steel City Striders (Wei Chen)

    Tone: Positive

    “a terrific event”

First post-lockdown edition with about 698 marathon finishers. Brilliant organisation, a well marked, flat route on farm roads, loads of water stations in 15 to 20 °C (59 to 68 °F) warmth and a half-marathon overlap that did not matter.
