Why people love it

  • Certified Boston qualifier; 127 runners (10.5% of finishers) qualified in 2025.
  • About 11 km (7 mi) along the Lake Erie waterfront, plus Delaware Park.
  • Water and sports drink every 1.6 km (1 mi) after mile 12 (19 km).
  • Start, finish, expo and hotels sit together at the Convention Center.
  • Cool 6:30 am start: 7 °C (45 °F) in 2025.

Watch out for

  • Warm years bite: 24 °C (75 °F) at the start in 2021, 29 °C (84 °F) later in 2023.
  • Steep first 1.6 km (1 mi) and a long incline on Linwood Avenue.
  • Crowds thin outside downtown and the field gets lonely after the half finishes.
  • A cone-filled roundabout near the finish makes the line hard to spot.
  • Headwind reported near 40 km (mile 25) in 2025.

  • MarathonGuideRaced 2023 · aggregator · Positive

One reviewer rated it 5.0 as a New York state race: well organised, spectators every mile on the back half, well-stocked aid with ice and ice sponges as it warmed, bike marshals checking runners.

“Put this one on your list!”

    Katherine B.
  • WeeViewsRaced 2025 · aggregator · Positive

First-timer from Ohio who hit a Boston age-group time. Mostly flat with a few climbs and fast downhills, through a marina and parks; plenty of aid with water, Gatorade and gels; mid-40s °F (7 °C) and partly cloudy. Cons: limited crowds outside downtown and a hard-to-find finish with a cone roundabout.

    “Limited crowd support”

  • Run With No RegretsRaced 2017 · blog · Mixed

Half marathon recap from a Buffalo native. Praised communication, fireworks start and pizza and beer finish; found the first mile steep and Linwood Avenue a long climb, and the course map confusing. Warm and humid by the finish (about 27 °C (81 °F), 80 °F). Stayed at the Westin a couple of blocks from the start.

“the course wasn't as flat as I was made to believe”
