  • Racecast Carmel Marathon reviews (16 race reports)Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive

16 race reports across 2016 to 2024, 10 positive and 6 mixed, all would run again. Common points: ideal cool calm conditions in 2023 and 2024, crowding around the 3:00 pace group and narrow streets with many traffic circles in the first half, aid stations concentrated in the first half, long porta-potty lines at the start, and tough miles after mile 15 (24 km). One runner measured about 152 m (500 ft) of change.

    “Race conditions were ideal.”

Reddit race-report authors summarised by Racecast
  • Ran 2:54 and calls it the best marathon course she has run. Under 122 m (400 ft) of change, many roundabouts, an out-and-back near mile 19 (31 km). 2 °C (36 °F) start warming to about 9 °C (48 °F), headwind over the last 11 km (7 mi). Cowbells and music most of the way, none in the industrial park near mile 19. Aid about every 3.2 km (2 mi) with Gatorade and water but no gels. About a 15-minute toilet wait, plentiful parking and hotel shuttles every 20 minutes.

“cannot recommend the Carmel Marathon enough”

  • Team RunRun: Carmel Marathon race info (2018)Raced 2018 · blog · Positive

2018 butterfly-loop course, two loops from a single start and finish, with under 168 m (550 ft) of total change, 08:00 start and a 6.5-hour limit. Race moved a month earlier to avoid heat. Easy parking, hotel shuttles, aid roughly every 1 to 1.5 miles (1.6 to 2.4 km) with water and Powerade but liquid electrolytes only. Reports describe a smaller, well-run event.

“Well-organized race, from the expo to the aid stations and the finish chute.”

  • BibRave Carmel Marathon reviewsRaced 2018 · aggregator · mixed-positive

Several BibRave reviews mention many roundabouts, a crowded course to about mile 5 (8 km) and risky water stops on a 1-lane section. Positives: residents cheering every mile with signs and chalk messages, and great organisation. A 2018 marathoner found water stops far apart once it passed 21 °C (70 °F).
