Why people love it

  • Flat loop with about 100 m (330 ft) of gain; first-timer friendly and fast.
  • Bands, flares and crowds, loudest at Dronning Louises Bro near 27 km (17 mi).
  • Pacers every 10 minutes from 3:00 to 5:00, plus a live tracking app.
  • The finish stays open for all runners despite the 6 hour cutoff.
  • Metro runs to the expo and race village.

Watch out for

  • The first 2 to 3 km (1 to 2 mi) are crowded and pace groups can start too fast.
  • Water stations on the right side only, with collisions and discarded cups.
  • Long toilet queues on race morning; a fence delayed the 2024 elite start.
  • From 2027 a lottery decides entries; bib resale is banned.
  • Hotels are pricey on race weekend.

  • Racecast: Copenhagen Marathon reviews (Reddit summaries)Raced 2023-2024 · aggregator · Positive

Five 2023-2024 finishers from 2:30 to 3:33. Flat, about 12 °C (54 °F), overcast, little wind. Crowds called amazing, but hydration stations chaotic, early kilometres crowded and pacers too fast in one case. A fence between the mass start and elites delayed the start in 2024.

“Copenhagen is a wonderfully flat course, so that was very much appreciated.”

    Reddit posters
  • A 2:57:59 PB on a nearly flat, forgiving course. Cool, ideal weather, lively spectators with music, and easy metro-linked logistics around one park. The only disorganized part was that pace groups were not clearly separated at the start.

“I cruised across the line absolutely elated with a big PB of 2:57:59”

    Patrick
  • Organiser survey of nearly 7,000 runners gave the event 9 out of 10, with Net Promoter Scores of 78 (Danes) and 82 (international). The organiser runs it, so it is a self-report.

“Everything was stepped up. The course, the positivity, the vibe.”
