Why people love it

  • Flat double loop through downtown Jersey City, 42.2 km (26.2 mi), certified and a Boston qualifier.
  • Hotels sit a block or two from the start; Newark airport is 13 km (8 mi) away.
  • Downtown crowds are strong early and near the finish, with about 10,000 starters in 2026.
  • Dry bag drop at trucks is easy and volunteers are often praised.
  • Organisers say the expo will move to a larger space.

Watch out for

  • Potholes and rough pavement reported in 2023, 2025 and 2026; many turns and rail tracks.
  • Aid is uneven: Gatorade only at alternate stops and 4.8 km (3 mi) gaps on a warm 2024 day.
  • Parking gridlock and late starts; consider walking from a nearby hotel.
  • Statue of Liberty views are glimpses; Liberty State Park was cut from part of the 2024 route.
  • April weather varies: 29 °C (85 °F) in 2025, rain and humidity in 2023.

  • RaceRaves Jersey City Marathon & Half reviewsRaced 2026 · aggregator · Mixed

23 ratings, 3.3 of 5 (difficulty 2.0, scenery 2.7, production 3.3, swag 2.8). Reviewers agree it is flat and fast and the downtown crowds are good but the scenery is unremarkable, roads are rough, aid and Gatorade are patchy, parking and the expo are weak and the Statue of Liberty is only glimpsed.

    “The course was super flat.”

  • Six reviews from 2024 to 2026 scored from 1 to 10. Positives: well organised with enthusiastic crowds (2024), improving race (2026), flat and fast. Negatives: crowded shared first loop, light rail not running early (2024), aid ran out of Gatorade, poor finish area, mall restrooms locked to 8:30 am.

    “VERY ENTHUSIASTIC crowds”

  • WeeViews: Jersey City Marathon reviewRaced 2023 · blog · mixed-positive

Fast, nearly flat double loop, strong downtown energy but a quiet Liberty State Park, a big parking jam at the Newport Mall garage and a finish chute that missed the party. Well stocked aid. Pacers for most goals over 3 hours.

“Overall, good course and a good race.”

    Brian Rock
  • Heavy rain and humidity, a congested first half mile, porta-potty at mile 17 (27 km), park loop with Statue views and humid hamstring cramps. Parking delays meant arriving with minutes to spare. Finished 3:26.

“The first half went according to plan.”

    Brian Rock
  • About 10,000 starters, long toilet lines, corrals closing late, strong downtown crowds that sometimes hid mile markers, rolling Garfield Ave and a long incline at miles 19 to 20 (30 to 32 km). Statue and One World Trade views, breezy 50s F (10 to 15 °C (59 °F)) with wind late. Finished 3:12:20.

“my legs just gave up in the last stretch”

    Brian Rock
