After cycling north from Riceville through McIntire in April 2020, CHE recommended the Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail, describing curving wooded sections, bridges and open farmland. Strong wind made the outward ride harder, and different signs through McIntire briefly confused the riders.

Outside-race cycling context from April 2020 on the Iowan WGWL Northern Branch between Riceville, McIntire and the state line. The current IronHorse marathon also uses Minnesota’s Shooting Star Trail, which this ride did not cover.
