What racers and reviewers say
- RaceRaves Tobacco Road Marathon and Half MarathonRaced 2026 · aggregator · Positive
38 ratings, 4.3 out of 5 overall, difficulty 2.2, scenery 3.5, production 4.1, swag 3.8. Runners agree on a shaded, mostly flat, fast trail with good organisation and aid. They split on 'flat' (one says net uphill return) and want more spectators. A 2025 storm nearly cancelled the race.
“This is a good race for a speedy time.”
- MarathonGuide race reviewsRaced 2022 · aggregator · Positive
Three 2022 reviews score 4.0, 4.3 and 5.0. Praise for organisation, shirts and a perfect 11 to 14 °C (51 to 58 °F) day. One says the last 5 km (3 mi) (miles 22 to 25) climb slightly and the course is hillier than it looks; another calls it Florida flat. Crowds are enthusiastic but have few places to stand.
“Hillier than appears”
- Marathon Training AcademyRaced 2016 · blog · Positive
Calls the course flat and fast with a gentle downhill finish on mostly packed sand and dirt. Expo, shuttle and communication were smooth and the post-race party strong. Hot, humid weather (23 °C (73 °F), 74 °F by noon) and few spectators on the trail were the drawbacks.
“very well organized and run”
- fANNEtastic FoodRaced 2012 · blog · mixed-positive
Half marathon recap from 2012. Trail and road mix, pace groups helpful, big medal. A gradual rise near 9.7 km (mile 6) and a final uphill, warm humid start and a crowded early pack dented the day.
“The race ends with an uphill?!”
- BibRave Tobacco Road reviewsRaced 2019 · aggregator · mixed-positive
Several 2016 to 2020 reviews say the soft packed trail is not rocky, the route is pretty but a bit boring, the race feels lonely at times, and one reviewer found a slow downhill out and slow uphill back that wore on later.
“pretty but a bit boring”
