    The returning racer enjoyed competing but found the bike course narrow and congested, with tight turns and rough pavement. Ocean swells made sighting difficult. He also disliked waiting about two hours for his age-group award.

    October 2012 Day at the Beach Triathlon at Hermosa Beach, including a 3-mile run. Exact historical swim and bike distances are not fully established here. The current race is held in summer; routes, organizer arrangements and conditions may differ. This is historical event context, not a current safety finding. The author was fundraising through endurance events.
