Why people love it

  • 400 m (0.25 mi) pool swim in a 5-lane, 25 m (82 ft) pool, so no open water nerves.
  • Reviewers repeatedly call the marshals and briefing friendly, and many were doing their first triathlon.
  • Flat, fast bike loop on a good surface; a 2022 description gave about 25 km (15.5 mi).
  • Season opener in late April; compact venue with transition just outside the pool.

Watch out for

  • Bike distance is not stated now; past listings gave 20 km (12.4 mi) and 25 km (15.5 mi).
  • Run is rough: uneven grass, a canal path that floods, and 800 m (0.5 mi) short in 2025.
  • Bib collection is early; one athlete left home at 04:30 for a 06:00 to 07:00 arrival.
  • Late April rain and cold hit 2024 and 2025; bring a changing robe and dry layers.
  • Women start first, then open; a strong swimmer in the later group can be passed on the bike.

  • Eventrac review (Ali Brocklebank-Lambert)Raced 2025 · review · Positive

First-time sprinter who collected the number the day before. Praised the thorough briefing, poolside marshals who gave a 10 second countdown, and upbeat transition marshals. Photographers cheered athletes on and competitors high-fived on the run.

    “perfect place to start”

    Ali Brocklebank-Lambert
  • Eventrac review (Phillip Weaver)Raced 2025 · review · Mixed

Good for beginners, but said the 5 km (3.1 mi) run was about 800 m (0.5 mi) short. The organiser replied they are looking for ways to add distance safely.

    “5K run was 800m short”

    Phillip Weaver
  • Eventrac review (Joel Hewitt)Raced 2025 · review · Mixed

A strong swimmer who thought the women-then-open start split pushes him into a later wave and leaves him passed on the bike. Organiser explained the split.

  • Eventrac review (Richard Carter)Raced 2024 · review · Mixed

After heavy rain the run field was a bog and the canal path was flooded and overgrown, which spoiled an otherwise good event.

“field was turning into a bog”

    Richard Carter

  • Eventrac review (Jane Fontana)Raced 2024 · review · Positive

Raced in terrible weather and still found it safe and welcoming: the organiser and referee adapted, allowed clothes to be kept dry in plastic bags and shortened the medal ceremony. Called the bike fast and flat with limited traffic and the muddy run fun.

    “fast and flat”

    Jane Fontana
  • Eventrac review (Thomas Wilson)Raced 2025 · review · Mixed

Very well organised, but found the run route tight and rough underfoot and asked why the canal path is not used. Organiser cited road crossings and safety, and later said the route is under review.

  • Eventrac review (Clement Mathon)Raced 2026 · review · Positive

Called the event fantastic and welcoming, but found the lanes from the pool to the bike transition confusing and suggested one lane or a clearer briefing.

  • Eventrac review (Zoe Marciniak)Raced 2025 · review · Mixed

Enjoyed the event but got up at 04:30 to arrive between 06:00 and 07:00 because numbers cannot be posted. Organiser said British Triathlon rules require them to see each athlete.
