Why people love it

  • Warm, clear reservoir water and a mostly flat dirt Rail Trail run
  • Out and back bike with a gentle downhill return, so you see other racers
  • Long-running TriUtah event with Olympic, sprint, aquabike and duathlon options
  • Camp at Dry Hollow Campground next to the start

Watch out for

  • A 2024 racer reported a congested transition and an unclear route into it
  • Water level varies: a long wade or run out was reported in low years
  • Little shade on the run at about 1,700 m (5,600 ft) elevation in July
  • Few spectators, and only one recent racer review exists
  • Packet pickup location is unclear; check the TriUtah page

Five reviews averaging 2.7 of 5. The one with text scores 3.0 and says the mass start did not feel crowded and the bike course was well marked, but the bike dismount and transition were congested and unclear, non-racers got in the way and the bike racks lost their fence two hours before the race ended. The run is partly dirt with three aid stations and little shade; volunteers were friendly.

“Bike dismount and transition were awful.”

    Park Record staff
  • Park City Park RecordRaced 2012 · article · Positive

Low reservoir year: swimmers could stand waist deep and one racer said the dam was very low. A local racer called it the easiest of her three summer triathlons because of a flat run and a fast downhill bike return, on a perfect morning.
