Why people love it
- Sprint swim is one beach-start loop with interval waves to spread the field.
- Rolling out-and-back bike, called fast by the organiser; Olympic bike is 36 km (22.4 mi).
- Run stays inside the park on flat paved roads with short rolls.
- Kit pickup on race morning: 6:30 to 7:45 AM Saturday, 7:15 to 8:45 AM Sunday.
- Athletes enter the park free; spectators pay $8.50 per adult.
Watch out for
- A rider was hit by a driver on the 2018 bike course; current closure status is not stated.
- Open, exposed bike roads make wind a factor; speed bumps at the park gate can eject bottles.
- Long run over grass and uphill from the swim to transition.
- Non-standard distances: 36 km (22.4 mi) Olympic bike, 19 km (11.8 mi) sprint bike.
- Few athletes have written about this race; evidence is magazine, news and organiser pages.

What racers and reviewers say
- Triathlon Magazine Canada (Guelph Lake 1 preview)Raced 2018 · article · Positive
Preview of Guelph Lake 1. The lake is usually comfortable in June though a wetsuit is a good idea, and expect a long grass run to transition. The bike is mostly flat with gentle rollers, and wind matters on open roads. The run is flat paved paths with three aid stations. It also served as the club championship.
“Expect a fairly long run across grass.”

- Wellington Advertiser (2014 weekend preview)Raced 2014 · article · Positive
Preview expecting about 1,700 athletes over the 2014 weekend with try-a-tri, sprint and Olympic races plus duathlons. Bike and run use local roads north of the conservation area, and the series pitches the weekend as something for everyone. Dated but shows long-standing scale.
