Robert Horvick described an exceptionally friendly gathering despite the cold and runners’ fatigue, and observed teams setting up, friends reconnecting and nervous pre-race activity.

Perspective: spectator; this is not a finisher review. This is a 2025 photojournalist and spectator perspective from a local community photography project. Horvick supplies his own observations and images of the start and early laps; he does not claim to have raced or to have observed the full 12- or 24-hour event.
