  • Clear Caribbean swim over reef
  • Warm 26-28 °C (79-82 °F) water

  • Drafting enforcement criticised by some
  • Late-hurricane-season weather and aid shortfalls in 2021

What racers and reviewers say

  • RaceRaves: triforfun (first-timer)Raced 2022 · aggregator · Positive

First-timer found the course about as flat as it gets with heat and humidity the main challenge. Loved the clear fast swim (though suspected short), scenic oceanside bike loops and energetic crowds; thought the run's loop count wore on them and the expo, medal were weak.

  • Experienced racer's fastest swim of 12 full Ironmans thanks to tidal current; bike winds milder than feared in damp, cool weather. Run suffered from storm-drain smells and aid stations running out of water on the last lap; T2 had been moved. Liked his Airbnb about 1.3 km (0.8 mi) from the Ironman Village.

  • Racers disagree: one praises volunteers, aid every ~16 km (10 mi) and warm local cheering but notes shifting current, feisty self-seeded swim and little drafting enforcement; another calls east-side wind horrendous and says lax officiating means he will not return. Also notes falling participation (about 2,300 peak to roughly 1,500).

  • TriRating: Ironman Cozumel 2019 results analysisRaced 2019 · aggregator · Positive

Analysis attributes extremely fast swim times to ocean currents, not a short course (+12:22 adjustment), with a fast bike (+18:33). Course records fell: 7:44:01 men, 8:38:41 women.

  • TriRating: Ironman Cozumel 2012 results analysisRaced 2012 · aggregator · Negative

A hard 2012 day: choppy swim, windy bike and hot run produced the slowest race adjustment ever recorded in Cozumel (4:13) with many strong athletes dropping out.
