What racers and reviewers say

  • RaceCheckRaced 2017 · aggregator · Positive

Gold-visor reviewer gave 5/5, calling the event pricey but outstanding. Swim is easy to follow with big crowds but wind chop and a shallow weedy final stretch. Bike is flat and fast with a memorable closed bridge crossing, though exposed Oland roads make wind a problem. Run is three loops with aid about every 2 km (1.2 mi).

    “The atmosphere is electric.”

  • Slowtwitch forum (HuffNPuff)Raced 2013 · forum · Positive

Found the swim much colder than Zurich. Bike flat to rolling with a bridge to Oland and a single hill at the south end. Run is three loops past an old city gate and cobbles to the cathedral, with a spectacular finish.

  • Slowtwitch forum (Kristoffer)Raced 2016 · forum · Positive

Swim and bike are fairly exposed to wind and the swim slows when windy. The bike is very flat with good roads and few brake touches. Crowds gave support all day.

  • Raced both Kalmar and Copenhagen and found Kalmar's swim, bike and run less scenic than Copenhagen's. Notes the town goes very quiet the day after the race.

  • Slowtwitch forum (Emzee)Raced 2018 · forum · Positive

Swim was fun with bridges and spectators. Bike was flat and fast and the run had support throughout. Stayed in a room about 100 yards (91 m (299 ft)) from the swim start with no car needed.

  • Slowtwitch forum (shoki)Raced 2019 · forum · Positive

First part of the bike is flat with crosswinds from either side; the last 60 km (37 mi) roll. Run crowds felt bigger than at Roth. Post-race town is quiet.

  • SlowtwitchRaced 2026 · article · Positive

Pro-race report: course records for both winners, hot and windy conditions, and run laps on cobbles that made it harder than expected. Winners praised the pre-swim atmosphere. No organisational issues mentioned.

  • Slowtwitch forumRaced 2026 · forum · Positive

Posters measured the bike near 179.3-179.8 km (111.4-111.7 mi) with about 767 m (2,516 ft) of climbing and the run at 233 m (764 ft), and judged the route natural. Several suspect a fast or short swim given wind assistance and sheltered salty water; exit channel current varies by year.

  • Slowtwitch forumRaced 2026 · forum · Positive

Thread notes both Scandinavian races sold out for the following year; Kalmar called a pancake-flat, fast bike. Poster advice on flying bikes and arriving early for jet lag.

  • BestBikeSplitRaced 2026 · aggregator · Mixed

Course preview: two bike loops of about 122 km (76 mi) and 58 km (36 mi), about 500 m (1,640 ft) gain, mostly rolling with a few punchy climbs. The 6 km (3.7 mi) Oland bridge, crossed twice, is the main wind exposure.
