TriBourne (IronBourne) Full Distance, Eastbourne
Eastbourne, United Kingdom · July · TriBourne Multisport Events (Independent)
Why people love it
- Full-distance start by jumping off Eastbourne Pier into the Channel
- Fast three-loop bike on quick A roads with Beachy Head views near the end
- Flat seafront run loops with big crowd support
- Reviewers praise the best-value, triathlete-run organisation and the finish gantry
Watch out for
- Open roads: long busy A-road stretches and a few narrow, twisting sections
- Three bike loops get lonely once the half-distance field leaves
- Four out-and-back run loops can feel mentally draining
- Rough sea cancelled the pier jump in 2025

What racers and reviewers say
- RaceCheck: Jack M.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Recommends it strongly as an IRONMAN-distance goal: excellent swim start, beautiful bike scenery on great-condition roads with minimal incline and exceptional run support.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
First full: glad to go local, easy registration and racking the day before, fun pier jump, easy swim with current, three bike laps with enough change not to be a slog (lonely on laps two and three), sensible aid spacing and a flat run.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Fabulously organised: accurate distances, the clearest bike signage the writer has seen, marshals everywhere, great post-race food and a finish gantry as good as an IRONMAN one. Sea swim is a doddle with the current. Some tourist congestion at Birling Gap.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Great safety cover; long A-road sections are busy but never dangerous; three loops mentally draining; run is very well supported though four out-and-backs are tiring; wants more food variety at aid.
- RaceCheck: Amanda H.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
First full distance and the best experience: safe and well looked after, pier jump a great start, loved the bike with Beachy Head views in the last 10 km (6.2 mi), huge run support and a finish where everyone gets the tape.

- RaceCheck: Simon J.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Great course, fantastic marshals and aid helpers, public support on the seafront, a massage afterwards; asks for more portaloos at transition.
- RaceCheck: Nathan G.Raced 2023 · aggregator · Positive
Calls it a great independent IRONMAN-distance event: lots of pre-race detail, brilliant pier swim, bike signs for middle and full course deviations could be clearer, and a simple, enjoyable run.
- RaceCheck: Andrew R.Raced 2023 · aggregator · Positive
Exceptional swim, easy to navigate, hard against the tide but very fast with it. The bike looked complicated but repeating loops helped break it down.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2022 · aggregator · Positive
First full iron-distance event: loved the swim, enjoyed the bike though the last 10 miles were hilly, a tough run on a hot day with excellent aid, hoses and cold sponges.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2022 · aggregator · Positive
Jumping off the pier settles pre-race nerves; Mediterranean-like sea with paddleboard and canoe marshals; low sun hid the turn buoy on lap two. Eastbourne's amenities keep family entertained.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2021 · aggregator · Positive
Inaugural IronBourne: some teething problems but huge potential. Glass-like swim and pier jump, with large portions of the bike on the A22 and A27 that were quiet early on.
- RaceCheck: Brenhan H.Raced 2025 · aggregator · Positive
Very well organised and enjoyable even in the rain; the pier jump was cancelled because the sea was lumpy and the writer agreed it was the right decision.
