What racers and reviewers say

  • First-person sprint report from about 700 athletes at Lake Anna State Park. Transition sat by the lake with easy parking, the 750 m (820 yd) swim was calm apart from wooden pilings at the first turn, the 18 mi (29 km) bike rolled and began with a short climb, and the 5 km (3.1 mi) run opened with an uphill mile then flattened. Race-day packet pickup, a lean race bag and fast results earned praise. Old (2009) and under the former Setup Events banner.

“The event was run really well.”

    Ray Maker (DC Rainmaker)
  • Slowtwitch forum: Kinetic half (Lake Anna)Raced 2008 · forum · Positive

A February 2009 thread about the Half, still useful for the venue. Posters agree the organisers run a tight, well-staffed, no-frills race, roads are mostly good with a few rough patches, the bike has gentle rollers, and the park run is tougher than advertised, hilly and hot with sparse aid in early years. The early-season swim was cold (mid 50s to low 60s °F, 13 to 17 °C (63 °F)) until the date moved later.

“Setup does good races - you will find them well organised and staffed.”
