What racers and reviewers say

Stunning setting and slick logistics, with parking, registration and transition close together. The 14 °C (57 °F) swim was pleasant, though two confusing side-by-side turn buoys, a tougher choppy second half and too few buoys on the right were faults.
- RaceCheck: Sammy O.Raced 2026 · aggregator · Mixed
Logistics were 5 out of 5, but several athletes measured the swim at about 2.45 km (1.5 mi) instead of 2 km (1.2 mi), there was no aid for the first 4 km (2.5 mi) of the run on a hot day and the run was entirely grass, gravel and hills with nearly 200 m (656 ft) of gain.
- RaceCheck: Cormac O.Raced 2026 · aggregator · Positive
First triathlon. Hectic transition setup, calm mild lake but a 2.5 km (1.6 mi) swim instead of 1.9 km (1.2 mi), a very difficult bike with big hills and some lonely stretches, and a true trail run on uneven ground. Medal, shirt and hot food were great.
- RaceCheck: Terence O.Raced 2026 · aggregator · Positive
Loves the event and calls the organisation faultless, with a brilliant MC. His disappointment was run water stations: one at 4 km (2.5 mi) and none from 6 km (3.7 mi) until back near 4 km (2.5 mi) in the heat.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2026 · aggregator · Positive
Named it a favourite event: kayak-led 14 °C (57 °F) swim with a memorable view of the castle, mostly open but very quiet bike roads with one climbing section, an epic varied run through the estate, well-marshalled transitions and good finish food.

Enjoyed the Gauntlet; frustrating moment navigating the end of the swim behind reeds with no guidance floats, and no motorbike support seen. Road and trail marking were very good.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2025 · aggregator · Mixed
Best swim of the three events, warm and well marked. Disappointed the bike was cut from 96 km (59.7 mi) to 80 km (49.7 mi) and then measured 76 km (47.2 mi), cars tailed him on open roads, the run was a muddy trail that was not advertised, and there were no showers or changing. Overall 6.5 out of 10.
- RaceCheck: Jonathan K.Raced 2025 · aggregator · Positive
Great event with two gripes: too few marshals on open roads with unstaffed crossroads, and too few signs. Praises the super-safe lake swim, lovely forest run, short transitions, easy parking and local accommodation.
- RaceCheck: Gabriel W.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Terrific marshals even in remote spots, a lake swim so scenic you nearly stop, a bike around the Burren and a trail run suited to anyone who likes mixed terrain; advises trail shoes.
- RaceCheck: AnonymousRaced 2024 · aggregator · Mixed
Pretty venue, stunning lake, amazing swim, hilly bike like IRONMAN Cork with intense Burren traffic and coaches pulling out, and a muddy tricky trail run after the bike. Found race officials abrupt.
- RaceCheck: Madeleine C.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Enjoyed it but a marshal on the bike course missed signalling a left turn on a fast descent, the swim started before everyone reached the buoys, and the run was muddy and slippery.
- RaceCheck: Niall T.Raced 2024 · aggregator · Positive
Outstandingly beautiful location, friendly staff, excellent recovery area, route marking and post-race pizza. The swim was at least 600 m (1,970 ft) longer than advertised but equally so for everyone.
