Coomer found her first open-water race swim frightening. She describes a hilly bike course and a steep opening run hill that she walked, and was relieved to finish.

The returning racer recommended the beginner-friendly event and appreciated parking directly across from transition, quick check-in and small swim waves. She found the stairs after the swim and the uphill opening of the run demanding, but enjoyed the wooded finish and post-race food.

June 21, 2014 First/Fast Try super-sprint in Linden, Michigan: reported 300-yard swim, 9.1-mile bike and 2-mile run, entered in the competitive Fast Try division.
