    The athlete describes difficulty navigating breaking surf, a long beach-to-transition run and sharp climbs on the bike. Running on sand limited his speed, but he enjoyed strong local support and the event’s carnival atmosphere.

    Martin appreciated the organizers’ persistence after moving the planned Shaver Lake race to Lake Evans. He describes an exceptionally flat bike with marked potholes and a difficult hot, unshaded run.

    Historical relocated Olympic edition, held at Lake Evans rather than Shaver Lake. This coach-authored account also appears under Lake Evans; it is one athlete and source, not another independent review. It does not assess today’s Shaver Lake course, services or safety. The current organizer lists the two venues as separate events.
